Free Pattern: Crochet Christmas Bauble #5

So much for trying to get a pattern out each day. Christmas time is just not the time to be doing anything but preparing for Christmas!

I have managed to get the next bauble pattern out though. I don't think there will be too many more to come. If anything, maybe just one more. I'd like to start working on some different patterns and post them up.

Here is bauble #5

For a bauble of 19.5cm circumference.

Materials:

  • Cotton thread (4ply)
  • 2.5mm hook

Start
Magic loop, do not tighten

Row 1
ch, 12sc, slst
Tighten magic loop to approx. 5mm.
Row 2
Ch2, dc, [ch2, dc2tog] repeat 4 times, ch2 slst
dc2tog: First dc should be in same sc as previous dc, skip 1 sc, second dc in next sc.
Row 3
Ch, [2sc in dc2tog, 2sc in chain space] repeat 5 times, slst
The first 2sc (and sc, indicated in red), should be in same stitch as the slip stitch.
Row 4
Ch3, tr, [ch4, tr2tog] repeat 6 times, ch4, slst
tr2tog: First tr should be in same sc as previous tr, skip 2 sc, second tr in next sc.
Row 5
Ch, [2sc in tr2tog, 4sc in chain space] repeat 7 times, slst

Row 6
Ch4, dtr, [ch4, dtr2tog] repeat 6 times, ch4, slst
dtr2tog: First dtr should be in same sc as previous dtr, skip 5 sc, second dtr in next sc.
Row 7
Ch, [2sc in dtr2tog, 4sc in chain space] repeat 7 times, slst

Row 8
Ch4, dtr, [ch4, dtr2tog] repeat 6 times, ch4, slst
dtr2tog: First dtr should be in same sc as previous dtr, skip 5 sc, second dtr in next sc.
Row 9
Ch, [sc in dtr2tog, 4sc in chain space] repeat 7 times, slst
At this row or the previous, you will need to place bauble inside the cover and work around it.
Row 10
Ch3, tr, [ch2, tr2tog] repeat 6 times, ch2, slst
tr2tog: First tr should be in same sc as previous tr, skip 4 sc, second tr in next sc.
Row 11
Ch, [3sc in chain space] repeat 7 times, slst

Row 12
Ch2, dc, [dc2tog] repeat 6 times, slst
dc2tog: First dc should be in same sc as previous dc, skip 1 sc, second dc in next sc.
END
Tie off and break thread.

Just remember that as you complete rows with the bauble inside the crochet cover, you may need to pull the stitches a little tighter so they do not look stretched out.

I’ve wanted to try adding a chart to this pattern. But I’m really struggling with making complete charts; the programs I use are a bit too fiddly for what I make. I made this chart to show how the dc2tog stitch is over 3 sc stitches.

However, I could not get the scale to be equal for each row. The program I used is very fussy. The charts would either be out of proportion or skewed. I had to pick the lesser of two evils. I’m going to keep playing around with the charts though to see if I can make them work a little better.

  1. The pattern is great, you don't have to mess about with charts. ☺️

  2. I am not sure about row No. 11, shouldn´t be there only 2sc...?
